Reading Notes: The Golden Ball, Part A

The Golden Ball

  • there were two daughters to one mother
  • they came home from a fair and saw a handsome young man at his front door
  • he was dressed in golden accessories
  • he gave each daughter a golden ball
  • he told them if they lost it, they would be hung
  • the youngest daughter lost her ball
  • she had thrown it too far
  • it went so far it went into a house and she never saw it again 
  • she was taken away to be hung
  • she had a boyfriend who said he would get the ball so she wouldnt be hung
  • an old lady appeared where the ball was
  • she told him he must sleep three nights at the house if he wanted to ball back
  • he went into the house and looked all over for the ball
  • the first night in the house a giant came looking for the boy
  • the boy hid and the giant looked out the window for him
  • the boy cut the giant in half 
  • half of the giant fell out the window onto a group of bogles
  • the bogles wanted the other half of him so the boy threw it out the window to them
  • the next night another giant came and the boy cut him up as well but shoved his pieces up the chimney
  • the last night the boy killed all the bogles and got the golden ball back
  • the daughter who lost the ball was set to be hung
  • the hangman tells her to say any prayers or goodbyes 
  • her mom and dad come to watch her be hung
  • he boyfriend arrives right as she was about to be hung
  • he gives her the golden ball and he took her home
  • they lived happily ever after
